Chrysotile in Serpentine

Serpentine is a well-known gemstone among gemologists and avid crystal collectors, though it tends to be more obscure to the general public. This mostly ornamental stone comes in a range of green shades, often adorned with striking veining patterns that catch the eye.

But where does the name serpentine come from? The answer lies in the crystal’s unique appearance! Its smooth, sometimes slippery texture and snake-like, mottled markings are reminiscent of a serpent—hence the name “serpentine.”

Although it’s often mistaken for jade due to its similar color and texture, serpentine actually belongs to a completely different and unrelated group of minerals.
