When working with metal clay, you may want to give your pieces a domed shape for aesthetic or functional purposes. After firing, the pieces can be reshaped by dapping. Pam shows how to make your own custom dapping blocks using Jett Basic, which is a thermoplastic molding material. This allows you to create concave and convex shapes tailored to your project’s needs. Pam not only demonstrates how to dap your pieces, but also how easy it is to drill into set Jett Basic, to accommodate for a bail, gemstone or other embellishment.
Jett Basic is a thermoplastic compound used for holding parts, making molds, drying forms, dapping blocks, and textures. Create custom soft grip handles for your favorite tools. This product stays slightly pliable after it cools and sets. Quick to set, non-toxic, biodegradable and versatile.
Note: Keep the Jett Basic between 150°F and 170°F. The material should turn from white to clear when ready. You want it to be fully clear before molding.
