Cool Tools Non-Stick Ring Mandrels

Non-Stick Ring Mandrels are the perfect tool for making rings and round shapes in metal clay. Designed specifically for metal clay artists, these durable mandrels feature a non-stick surface that eliminates the need for wax paper or other release agents between the mandrel and your creation.

Our redesigned mandrels are now 2" long, providing a larger working surface for forming wider bands, creating more complex ring designs, and refining details with greater comfort and control. Built-in guide lines make it easy to create consistent band widths, while the innovative squeeze-release end helps remove dried rings with less effort and less risk of distortion.

When mounted on our redesigned mandrel stand, these mandrels provide an even better working experience. The stand features a 1" long,  7/6" support rod that securely holds the mandrel while extending it farther away from the stand, giving you more room for your hands and tools while shaping, texturing, and refining your work.

Integrated side wells to provide convenient storage for small components and supplies, keeping everything within easy reach while you work. Use them to hold gemstones, findings, paste, syringe clay, or other small items that are easy to misplace on a busy workbench.

For perfectly round, accurately sized rings every time, be sure to insert a Cool Tools Ring Sizer while forming your ring.

Available in whole and half sizes, with or without the stand. In addition to traditional sizes, our Non-Stick Ring Mandrels are now available in sizes 13 through 17.5, making it possible to create larger finished rings for those with larger hands. Because metal clay shrinks during firing, larger mandrel sizes are essential for achieving accurate finished ring sizes. These expanded sizes fill a long-standing gap for metal clay artists and provide more options than ever before when creating custom rings.

Heat Safe: Safe for use with common metal clay drying methods. The mandrels remain rigid up to 115°F (46°C). At higher temperatures (up to 165°F / 74°C), they may become slightly flexible but do not distort and quickly return to full rigidity as they cool. They can also be placed flat on their numbered face on a mug warmer without softening.

Silicone Ring Mandrels

"I love love love these silicone mandrels for building my rings on! They don?t stick to the dry clay and their sizes match Ring Pellet Molds also from Cool Tools! Once my ring is completed and dried I easily pull it from the silicone mandrel, transfer to a ring pellet mold and when completely dry fire it on the investment mold. My rings come out the desired size every time! My latest ring is in the pictures, and the design is inspired by the extraordinary Wanaree Tanner and her brilliant texture plates!!"

Q&A

Are the mandrel sized for the finished/fired size? if so: Is there a specific brand that these were sized for to attain the perfect size? Ellen
Hi Ellen, these are the actual size of a ring. So, when using metal clay you would want to size up according to the clay's shrinkage. For example, if you were using EZ960 and wanted a size 6 ring, you would use a size 8 silicone ring mandrel to create the ring before firing. Hope this helps clarify!
Could these be used with polymer clay? are they heat resistant?
Hi Seen, yes these can be used with polymer clay. They are safe up to 500°F. We have used them to make many polymer clay rings! Hope this helps!
