Recreate 3D Objects with Mold Star 30

Karen demonstrates how to create highly detailed two-part molds using Mold Star 30, a platinum-cure silicone molding compound designed for capturing intricate textures and shapes. Learn the complete process of making a two part mold (front and back), then how to use the finished mold to create dimensional metal clay pieces by filling each half and joining them together for seamless 3D forms.

Mold Star 30 is beginner friendly and easy to use, with a simple 1:1 mix ratio by volume. Just combine equal parts of Part A and Part B and mix until you achieve a uniform color with no visible streaks. Its low-viscosity formula flows easily around fine details, and vacuum degassing is not required for most applications. Perfect for creating reusable molds for metal clay, jewelry components, small sculptures, and other detailed 3D designs.

With a generous 45 minute working time, you’ll have plenty of time to pour and position your molds before the silicone fully cures in just 6 hours. Once cured, the flexible silicone allows greenware clay pieces to release easily without damage. Mold Star 30 is also heat safe up to 450°F (232°C), making it ideal for drying greenware directly in the mold on a hot plate or in a dehydrator.

Note: Universal Mold Release is used in this video, but any kind will do. We do not currently sell Mold Release. You can find it here.
