Mold Star 30 - 8 oz kit

Create molds with the highest level of detail this two part platinum cure silicone molding compound. Easy to measure for mixing, molds are created by combining equal parts by volume of Part A and Part B and mixing until one even color with no visible streaks is achieved. With a pot life of 45 minutes, you have plenty of time to pour your molds which will be fully cured and ready for use in 6 hours. This high quality molding material is flexible enough to allow greenware clay to be released without breaking, and is heat safe up to 450°F (232°C) so you can dry your greenware in mold directly on a hot plate or in a dehydrator. Beginner friendly, this molding material is relatively low viscosity and vacuum degassing is not required for most general applications.

How to Use:

Before measuring, pre-mix Part A and Part B in their respective containers to make sure the material has not settled. Dispense the required amounts (equal parts by volume) of Part A and B into a mixing container before mixing thoroughly. Make sure to scrape along the sides and bottom of your container to assure the material is fully incorporated. Mix until the material is one even color without any steaks or differences in color.

For best results, apply a mold release agent to the object to be molded prior to pouring the molding compound.

Pour your mixture in a single spot, at the lowest point of your mold and molding frame. Pouring from one spot and allowing the mold material to self level over the surface will minimize bubbles and entrapped air. Pour until the material levels off at least half an inch over the highest point of the model surface.

Allow your molds to cure for at least 6 hours at room temperature before demolding.

Safety: Mix and pour molds in a properly ventilated area. Wear vinyl gloves (latex will inhibit the cure of the molding compound and should not be worn), safety glasses, and long sleeves to minimize skin and eye contamination risk.

Storage: Store and use materials at room temperature- around (73°F/23°C). Warmer environments will reduce working time of the material. Storing material at warmer temperatures will reduce the shelf life of the material.

Cure inhibitors: This material will not cure if it comes in contact with sulfur containing clays or surfaces. If you are using clay to support your piece while pouring the first half of your mold, make sure they do not contain sulfur. Certain wood surfaces, newly cast polyester, epoxy or urethane rubber may cause inhibition of the cure.

Maintaining your molds:

After using your molds, cleanse them with soap and wipe them fully dry. Two part molds should be stored assembled. Store your molds in a cool and dry environment.

You'll receive 2 jars, each containing 4 oz (sold by volume, not by weight). Shelf life: 6 months.
