Handy size & shape & hope to use to set stones in copper and bronze clays
"This is referencing the 30 mm x 40 mm version of this bezel cup. They are nicely made and don't have any finish flaws. One thing to note is that the height of the sides on the outside is 2 mm, so the inside height is 2 mm less the thickness of the bottom of the cup. I mention this because if your intention is to use this to set thicker things such as lapidary cabs, you may not get much of a mechanical grip from the sides against the shoulders of the stone. The inside dimensions are about 0.1mm greater than nominal per my calipers, which gives a bit of leeway on stones purchased to size - all good there. Final point to note: these are ovals (in the mathematical sense) not ellipses (in the mathematical sense). Many lapidary templates are sloppy and interchange the two shape descriptions. Ellipses are narrower and taller than true ovals. My observation, though, is that anything that is round but not a circle is called an oval, including ellipses. I think of a capital O as an oval and a 0 (zero) as an ellipse, bu way of illustration."
