Alumina hydrate is a very nice media for supporting silver clay objects as they fire. It is made from aluminum sulfate and sodium carbonate. Alumina hydrate has a fine granular or powdered texture which some prefer over the coarser texture of vermiculite.
Dust your kiln shelf with a small amount of this easy to use product. This will eliminate surface tension and allow the clay to move as it shrinks. Without alumina hydrate, clay can stick to the kiln shelf.
The recommend firing for EZ960® Sterling Silver is to fire on a raised ceramic kiln shelf, dusted with alumina hydrate.
Made in the USA
Please note: This product can create dust. It is advised to wear a dust mask when working with Alumina Hydrate.

Firing Media
"Thank you for the alumina hydrate, which is contained in a sand material. I thought it was a sheet, and this makes it easier with the sand so I can put my pieces in a small firing."
— Lisa P. (5/5)

Firing media
"I use this in my open shelf firing thick enough to give some support to pieces in the kiln"

Good firing Media
"I’m looking forward to using this Media with my next project"

Great firing medium
"I often need support for pmc pieces during the firing process. This is very subtle and easy to support pmc pieces during firing."
— Sally B. (5/5)
Works perfectly!
"I have used this when firing complex pmc forms. I do realize it can be a hazardous material, I wear a mask and gently use a spoon to transfer just the amount I need, rather than pouring it and creating dust."
— Patrice B. (5/5)
Alumina hydrate
"It works well when firing PMC. It keeps pieces from distorting in the kiln. Just put a layer of AH on a kiln shelf and lay your piece on top."
