Gilders Paste is a non-fading metallic gilding and coloring medium for metals and other surfaces. It is formulated to become a dry, hard and durable wax medium that can sit on the shelf indefinitely. Adding thinner to the portion of paste can rejuvenate it for easier workability.
Create beautiful color effects on any type of metal and many other surfaces. Embellish silver, bronze, and copper clays. Add color to metal stampings, castings, and fabrications in steel, copper, brass, bronze, aluminum and other metals. Gilders Paste works beautifully with brass stampings, filigree, metal castings, ceramics, wood, etched glass, polymer clay, resin and more.
Wipe or brush on. Use as a paste or thin for a wash. Layer and blend for unique effectsSurface Preparation
Metal surface should be abraded for good adhesion of Gilders Paste. Use a Coarse Mini Fiber Wheel or 250 grit Bristle Disc to prepare bronze brass and copper (except copper clay). Use a Medium Mini Fiber Wheel or 400 grit Bristle Disc to prepare copper clay, all types of silver including silver clays. Porous materials such as cement, wood, ceramic, bisque ware, paper, gourds, polymer clay, traditional clay, modeling clay, paper mache, decoupage, foam and alike all have a mechanical tooth which is a proper surface for Gilders Paste to attach to.
Wrought iron, metal castings, hand forgings, mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, silver, glass, gloss painted surfaces, plastics, and other type of substrates need the surface to be distressed by either, sand blasting with fine silica sand, 400 grit sand paper, etching solution such as a glass etching solution or Sparex, coarse steel wool, wire brush or painted with a primer coat. Treat Gilders Paste as a finish coat.
Surface must be free of all surface contaminants such as water, scale, dirt, grease, and oil.

Sealing Gilders Paste
Krylon spray UV resistance gloss, Krylon spray UV resistant matt coats. A solvent-based ultra violet (UV) resistant clear coat such as acrylic, lacquer or clear powder coating can be used for exterior applications.
Re hydrating Gilders Paste
If left uncovered and over time, Gilders Paste will dry out. Add a few drops of paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine or turpenoid to the tin. Allow to penetrate. Break up into smaller chunks with a bench knife. Use a palette knife to stir. If too much solvent is added, allow to evaporate for a few minutes. Keep covered for storage and as much as possible during working to avoid drying out. Important: Do not use oil base cleaners or solvents such as Turpenoid Natural. The oil content of these type of cleaners and solvents will not allow the Gilders Paste to dry and will remain wet or tacky for days to weeks. If you have accidentally used this type cleaner/solvent leave the tin open until completely dried out and then rehydrate with the proper solvent.
Removing Gilders Paste
Wipe off with a cloth within 15 minutes of application. After 15 minutes, use one of the following solvents: paint thinner, minerals spirits, turpentine, lacquer thinner. Pieces can be soaked or wiped with a cloth. Use a toothbrush dipped in solvent for recesses. Wear protective gloves.

"I love Gilder`s paste, but up until now have only used the metals colors. I had no idea how great this color would work on bronze clay! I was able to salvage pieces that I thought were a loss just by adding this Patina. Wonderful product!"

"Patina Gilder's Paste is easy to use. This product doesn't really leave a tint of color on the surface or in fine details, but rather adds color to deeper grooves in your texture processes such as letters and valleys in fold forming. Easy to apply with a paper towel and excess easy to remove. Washes off of skin without staining."
