Pietersite is a rare and visually dramatic stone known for its storm-like swirls of color and intense chatoyancy. Often described as a “tempest stone,” Pietersite displays shifting flashes of gold, blue, red, and brown that move across the surface as the stone is tilted.

Geologically, Pietersite is a brecciated form of quartz containing fibrous crocidolite inclusions that have been naturally broken and re-cemented. This chaotic fiber structure is what produces Pietersite’s signature swirling patterns and optical movement, distinguishing it from banded tiger’s eye or petrified wood.

Each Pietersite cabochon is completely unique, with unpredictable color placement and dynamic visual depth.
