Prometheus PRO-7-PRG Digital Kiln

This kiln ships within 1 business day, Monday - Friday!

The Prometheus Pro-7 is a versatile tabletop kiln designed for artists, jewelers, and makers who need reliable, programmable firing in a compact footprint. Similar in size to the popular Paragon SC2, the Pro-7 is ideal for firing precious metal clays, including silver, gold, copper, and bronze clays, while also excelling at glass fusing, enameling, low-fire ceramics, china painting, annealing, and metal hardening applications.

With a maximum temperature of 2012°F and an easy to use programmable digital controller, the Pro-7 delivers professional performance in a studio friendly size.

Stress-Free Firing with 11 Preset Programs

Every Prometheus Pro-7 includes 11 preloaded firing programs, developed and tested through years of real-world use. These proven schedules allow you to begin firing immediately without having to create programs from scratch.

The controller provides 15 total program slots. 11 are preloaded and four are left blank for your own custom firing schedules.

Want to customize? No problem. Every preset can be modified or overwritten, giving you complete control over your kiln. Nothing is locked.

How the Programmable Controller Works

The digital controller allows you to precisely control:

  • Target temperature
  • Heating rate (ramp speed)
  • Hold/soak time at temperature
  • Controlled cooling rates
  • Cooling holds or annealing segments

Each program can contain up to five segments (steps).

For example:

  • Ramp at 540°F (300°C) per hour
  • Heat to 1472°F (800°C)
  • Hold for 45 minutes

Multi-segment programming is especially valuable when firing base metal clays, such as copper and bronze, which often require slower binder burn-out stages before final firing. It's equally useful for glass fusing projects that require controlled heating, annealing, and cooling schedules.

Once a program is created, it remains stored in memory until you choose to change it. You can dedicate individual programs to silver clay, glass fusing, enameling, ceramics, or any custom firing process you develop.

Chamber and Construction

The Pro-7 features a durable steel exterior with ventilation slots that help keep the outer case cooler during operation.

The front-loading door opens fully for easy loading and unloading, and a small vent above the bead door assists with ventilation when needed.

The firing chamber measures:

9" W x 8" D x 6" H
(230 x 205 x 155 mm)

Heating elements are embedded in the top, sides, and floor of the chamber for even heat distribution and efficient firing performance.

Choose a Bead Annealing Door

If chosen, the Pro-7 features a generous 6" x 2.25" (150mm x 57mm) letterbox-style bead annealing door. The bead door is hinged at the top and opens upward, allowing lampwork bead makers to insert mandrels through the opening while the kiln remains at temperature.

When open, the bead door rests on the mandrels and does not remain upright on its own.

Many artists also use the bead door to quickly check the progress of enamels, china paints, glass, and glazes. The opening provides a wider viewing area than a traditional kiln window while minimizing heat loss compared to opening the main door. As with any hot kiln, always use appropriate eye and heat protection when viewing the firing chamber.

Because lampwork mandrels typically keep the bead door slightly open during use, a small amount of heat loss is normal. As with all kiln processes, we recommend testing and refining firing schedules to suit your materials and workflow.

Note: Some discoloration around the door area and vent is normal with use. The refractory chamber expands and contracts during firing cycles. Small cracks are normal and may even be present in a new kiln. These do not affect kiln performance and typically close as the kiln heats.
