Start with this brush and buff your freshly fired metal clay to burnish down the white surface before moving on to polishing. Very fine. Excellent for initial burnishing. Buff with this brush after polishing for a beautiful soft satin finish.
Pieces to be brushed or burnished can be held in the palm of your hand or against a rubber block. A rubber block gives support to the piece and raises it up off the surface to make burnishing more comfortable. You can run this brush right over your finger, the bristles are so soft. For bails and hard to reach spots, try out tube brushes.
The white surface is not a crust to brush off, but silver that is brushed or burnished down to compact the surface. Burnishing is the first step in the finishing process for metal clay.
Made in the USA
Some prefer to use a burnishing solution made of water and a few drops of liquid soap, which is optional. Keep a dish of soapy water at the sink and dip the brush in the soapy water, then brush the item to be burnished in a steady, forward motion. Turn the piece in your hand or on the rubber block to maintain the same brushing motion. Any un-burnished areas will appear white when dry. A 3M bristle disc or tube brush can be used to polish in areas where the brass brush will not reach.
